America’s ports, vital to the economy, are bracing for a potential second strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) if a labor deal isn’t finalized by January 15th, 2025.

The first strike, settled after three days, revealed deep divides over modernization and wages. Ports require updated technology to handle growing cargo demands, but the ILA resists these changes, fearing job losses despite guarantees.

On wages, dockworkers already earn high pay and benefits, with proposals raising some salaries to $500,000 annually. Both sides must work to resolve their differences before the January deadline to avoid further issues with supply chains.
