The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) have reached a tentative six-year master contract agreement, averting a potential work stoppage ahead of the January 15th deadline. This deal protects ILA jobs, introduces modernizing technologies at East and Gulf Coast ports, and ensures strong supply chain operations.
While full details remain confidential pending membership ratification votes, the compromise on automation was a critical factor. This agreement provides certainty to industries reliant on these ports, such as fashion, where 53% of imports flow through these critical gateways.
