Copper, Customs & Consequences: August Trade Shakeup

In this month’s update, we cover critical tariff changes taking effect in August, introduce new tools now available on the Radius 360 portal, and spotlight a valued member of our logistics team.

Significant Tariff Increases Now in Effect

Beginning August 1st, 2025, the U.S. has implemented new tariffs targeting copper products, Brazilian imports, and Indian-origin goods. These measures are expected to impact a wide range of industries and supply chains:

  • 50% Tariff on Copper Products
    A 50% duty now applies to semi-finished and derivative copper products. This is in addition to existing duties and fees.

  • 50% Tariff on Brazilian Imports
    Following a Section 301 investigation, the U.S. has imposed an additional 40% tariff on Brazilian goods, raising the total to 50%. The action addresses concerns over Brazil’s digital trade practices, environmental standards, and intellectual property enforcement.

  • 25% Tariff on Indian Imports
    A 25% tariff is now in place for all Indian-origin imports, citing India’s high trade barriers and continued defense and energy cooperation with Russia. Additional penalties may be introduced in the future.

Further trade actions, including revisions to the de minimis exemption, are expected later this month on August 29th.
